Nowadays, casinos have a popularity that was unimaginable, but this does not mean that casinos are new, in fact, the casino culture is quite old, although with the advent of the Internet and online casinos, they have experienced incredible growth. In this article, we are going to look at the history of casinos, from the beginning to the present day, including how casinos appeared in Spain and how we went from the prohibition of gambling to the appearance of a new online casino in Spain every year. Continue reading if you want to learn about the origins of casinos and their interesting representation in literature.
Origins of casino culture
The origins of casinos are much older than you might imagine. Today you can find a wide selection of gambling sites, from online casinos with innovative payment methods such as Bizum to traditional sports betting offices. Bizum is a new payment system available in Spanish banks that allows you to make payments using your mobile phone. This means that users will be able to register at the casino with bizum and process payments very quickly and easily. Bizum is a payment method with great prospects, but many years ago no one could have imagined that it would be possible to make payments in such a simple way. Learn about 7 positive consequences of gambling for the economy and society on this site.
The first recorded instance of money being used for betting was in ancient Greece, when the richest people bet on chariot races or battles. However, it does not count as a casino since it was done in the open air. The first establishment dedicated to gambling and betting was the Casinò di Venezia, built in 1509 and operating since 1638.
Casinò di Venezia paved the way for other major casinos to open their doors, such as Monte Carlo Casino, one of the most important casinos in the world. This casino was built by François Blanc on the orders of Charles III and today it remains one of the grandest buildings dedicated to gambling. Something very interesting about the casino of Monte Carlo that many people do not know is that the citizens of the city cannot enter the casino and that Charles III created a law that forbids the citizens of the city from entering to prevent them from going into debt.
Europe has always been ahead of the rest of the continents, and in North America casino culture appeared a bit later, but when it did, it revolutionized the world of gambling. In 1905, the city of Las Vegas was established, and in 1931, gambling in the city was legalized. It is important to emphasize that the city of Las Vegas was created and that many years ago the entire area was a desert. The city was built with the goal of hosting the largest gaming and entertainment center in the entire world, and it has achieved that. Hotels, restaurants, casinos and everything that could become a tourist attraction were built.
With the advent of Las Vegas and the boom of cinema in those years, especially Hollywood, casino culture began to spread around the world and these places began to become more and more popular. Cities emerged that focused their tourism appeal on gambling, as in the case of Macau. Casinos have become an increasingly popular form of entertainment, but it wasn't meant to be. Emergence of casino culture in Spain
The history of gambling in Spain is not very long, and the opening of the first casinos did not help much, since gambling was prohibited from 1923 by order of Primo de Rivera. All open establishments had to be closed, and only in 1977, after Franco's death, gambling became legal again. In fact, in the same year, the Gambling Law was passed in Spain, which was not easy at all, because people were very conservative in this regard. From that moment, gambling began to develop in Spain, casinos began to be created, which were visited by more and more people.
How has this game been presented in literature over the years?
Literature always tends to reflect current events, and casinos have been an interesting subject to write about since their inception. There are thousands of works that mention casinos and gambling. In fact, there are casinos, like some in the city of Las Vegas, that are legendary sites of great historical works. It is true that the great works devoted to this subject are relatively modern, although, as already mentioned, casinos have been mentioned in literature since the beginning.

An amazing horse safari
We had an excellent time in Jaipur with this tour company. Kush was excellent at communicating with us and escorting us to the farm. The horses were extremely well taken care of, beautiful Marwari horses with pointed ears. The farm itself was homely, everyone there was extremely welcoming and it felt like home. Dp hosted us and ensured everything ran smoothly, I couldn’t fault his hospitality and love towards the horses. more
The perfect day for a horse lover!
Khushal was incredibly helpful in setting up our day and making sure it was one to remember. We were traveling to India for my best friend’s 50th birthday and as she is an avid rider and lover of horses this seemed like the perfect adventure. more
More
While in Rajasthan we (my husband and I and our two girls of 14 and 12) were keen to try and find a place to ride. It would have been wonderful to go for some days on a horse safari, but we hadn’t much time, so settled this time on going for a shorter ride. I’m so happy we came across Khush at Le Tour de India and DP Bana and his stud farm. We were taken in as friends to join a wonderful morning ride through villages and fields outside Jaipur. It was a completely different and wonderful experience to ride the sensitive, spirited and forward-going Marwani horses. Much care was taken by the captain leading the ride to ensure that everyone was managing with their mounts. When we returned after a great ride we sat under the canopy to enjoy a lovely spread for breakfast, and then had a great time getting on a couple of the fantastic polo ponies they have at the stables, and trying to play some polo – so much fun! Aside from the wonderful horses and riding, what also made this such a special experience was the warmth and friendliness of all those involved. Khush from Le Tour de India, who organised the morning ride was as helpful as it’s possible to be. I had mentioned to him when we were organising our trip that we’d love to see a polo match while we were in Jaipur, and he written back to say that the season was unfortunately over. But the day we arrived in Jaipur he wrote and surprised us by saying that he had set things up for us to go and watch a match that evening! Great fun to go to the polo ground and take it all in. DP Bana, who met us and looked after us like family at the polo match and the next day at his stud farm from where we went on our morning ride, was just so generous and warm in including us and introducing us to his friends, who also joined us the next day for the morning ride. Altogether very special, as it felt as though we made a real connection with each other in just a short time. Way over and above the usual tourist experience. Thank you all. Very much hope to see you again.
