Gangaur Festival

Gangaur Walk -  Gangaur is a colourful women’s festival that is mainly celebrated in Rajasthan. It starts in spring and lasts up to 16 days in Rajasthan. It is the celebration of marital happiness and unmarried girls follow this ritual for being blessed with a good husband. The celebration reaches their zenith on the final day when beautifully dressed ladies do the final day pooja of Gangaur made of clay or wood and a royal Gangaur procession starts from City Palace along with beautifully decorated elephants, chariots and folk artists; which find its way through the Pink City and ends at talkatora. Why This Tour? Cultural Immersion: Not just observation—participation. Sing folk songs, grind spices for rituals, and learn the secret meanings behind festival symbols. Local Access: Experience intimate moments usually hidden behind closed doors, from family prayers to kitchen traditions. Photographer’s Paradise: Capture the kaleidoscope of colors—saris, turbans, flower mandalas, and the glittering idols of Gangaur. Highlights: Morning Rituals: Stroll through lanes perfumed with incense and marigolds as women, draped in vivid ghagras and silver jewelry, carry clay idols of Gangaur to community shrines. Henna & Heritage: Let local artists adorn your hands with intricate mehndi designs, each pattern echoing age-old symbols of love and prosperity. Sacred Pooja: Step into a traditional home to witness the heartfelt Gangaur Pooja, where turmeric, rice, and vermilion blend with whispered prayers for marital bliss. Royal Procession: Stand in awe as the City Palace gates open to a regal parade—gleaming elephants, chariots, and folk dancers—a spectacle that mirrors Jaipur’s royal past. Feast & Folklore: Savor a homestyle Rajasthani thali with festive treats like ghewar (honey-drenched disc sweets) and dal baati churma, while elders share tales of Gangaur’s mythical love and Jaipur’s enduring customs. Dance of Joy: Lose yourself to the rhythmic beats of Ghoomar as women twirl in circles, their mirrored skirts catching the sunlight—a moment where strangers become sisters.
